Can I use the Songwriter’s Blueprint for re-writes?
Yes! The Songwriter’s Blueprint is an excellent tool for
re-writes and
co-writing as well. For example, for re-writes you would break down the
existing information from the song you want to re-write, and apply it to
each
category. Then look to see where the “holes” are, meaning ,what
categories don’t have any information in them? Then generate
more
ideas about that section. This is very helpful to determine
where your
song may have a weak spot. The most common area of weakness is
plotting... where the storyline wasn’t clear before getting
started. For
co-writing it’s excellent to have more than one person
generating
creative information for the specific categories and provides a
wealth of
ideas, angles, and strategies for writing powerful songs.
What level of writer is The Songwriter’s Blueprint designed for?
For all levels, especially those who are serious about writing
the best
songs they possibly can.
Can The Songwriter’s Blueprint be used for all styles of music?
Yes it can!
How will I benefit from using The Songwriter’s Blueprint?
The Songwriter’s Blueprint provides an opportunity for you to
write
focused, well communicated songs which definitely improves your
chances of getting your material heard and cut, not to mention
the
personal satisfaction of a job well done.
What if the song I’m writing doesn’t fall into the classic
narrative
structure the “Plotting” section suggests?
By at least answering each one of the questions in the plotting
section,
you will have an idea of where your song could go, not that you
have to
take it there in a complete narrative fashion. For example, you
may find
by answering the questions, your verses may focus on point #1
and your
chorus may focus on point # 7 and perhaps your bridge may focus
on
point #9 while still having created a satisfying plotline.
Another plotting
method is to simply ask yourself... What is happening? Who is it
happening to? Why is this happening? Where is this taking place?
And when is this happening?
